1st Day of School - Part 2

1st Day of School

Today was the day we've been counting down to for months now! Buxton has NO problem getting up out of bed this morning at 615. So early for a 3 year old... and more so for Mommy. He woke up to his alarm clock and we began his morning sticker chart. We loaded into the car soon after the sun rose, made the 25 minute commute, and as the nerves set in we walked into school. We sat in the hall, lined up with Mrs. Wright, waiting for all the students. As other kids cried watching their parents leave, Buxton reached up for my hand, unwilling to let go. When we got into his classroom, we found his seat, and hung his backpack on his chair. The tears began to fall down Buxton's face as we were saying goodbye. It took us a good 15 minutes before we left our baby boy kicking and screaming in his classroom. As the teacher closed the door we could hear him screaming "I don't want to go to school!!!" It was so sad to hear, although I held it together, we knew he would suck it up quickly and have a great 1st day.

With about one minute to spare before Brayleigh and I needed to leave for school, I find myself without car keys. Panic. I called Matthew asking if he accidentally took mine. Nope. Checked the garbage can. Nope. The cupboards within Brayleighs reach. Nope. The dog bowl. Nope. It was time to call Matthew home. He had to rush, but was excited to be a part of Buxton's pick up! We lined up outside the doors of school, waiting anxiously with our camera. Buxton's class was 10 minutes late for release. Knowing the kids had to stay in line, against the wall, waiting for the teacher to call their name and check their parents ID, we knew Buxton would struggle with not running up to us! Well he was the first one out and while holding the teachers hand he took a quick glance at his parents and didn't even blink. He stayed in line just like he was supposed to. Matthew and I looked at each other and laughed. Matthew's first remark was, "did they brainwash him?"

I have been waiting 3 years to hear Buxton tell me about his first day of school so I knew I wanted to capture it on video... however I couldn't wait to hear about it. Buxton told us all about it on the walk back to the car. It was the best talk ever! He had a blast and is so excited to go back to school! When we got into the car I did take a video... but it was all old news to him and he was tired of talking about it. I'll load it up soon anyway.

Meet Your Teacher Night

It's that time...school starts in two days. I almost wrote "It's that time again" but this is our little man's FIRST time to go to school. Chels and I were more excited than Buxton was, but he did have his share of jitters as well. He had been excited all day but once we got there he got to be the nervous boy we know so well. His favorite subjects so far? Music and P.E.! Just like his pops. He rocked out a Xylophone, read books in the library and chased some new friends with the most ferocious lion growl I've ever heard. It finally hit me that my SON was going to SCHOOL when his teachers were telling us he'd be learning things that I remember being taught when I was in school. What the heck? Where did that happen? Well he'll start going to Mrs. Wright's Pre-K class Thursday morning at 7:40 a.m. and his mother will be in tears soon after. We will certainly be taking pictures that morning and we'll show you how everything goes.

Thirsty Hutch

Hutch likes to play fetch. I believe that unless we stopped him, he would fetch himself to death. The other day when he went inside to get a sip of water he found his water bowl empty so he turned to an alternative source. Sometimes the toilets in our house have a kiddie seat on top of them and Hutch found that it makes his hydration attempts a little more difficult.

KidVille

Killeen recently hosted a free event for families. They had a petting zoo, pony rides, inflatables, a catfish pond and all kinds of other entertainment. The kids had a blast, especially when our friends the Schwartz' showed up with their family. Buxton loved the inflatables as he always does and Brayleigh Sue went wild over the bunnies.

Ice Cream Festival

This past Saturday Austin celebrated it's 4th annual Ice Cream Festival. I would love to tell you how much fun we had riding carnival rides and eating ice cream... but I can't! It was unbelievably HOT outside - unbearable and miserable. Everywhere you looked you could see sweat soaked through peoples clothes (seriously) and running off their faces. The lines for ice cream weren't worth standing under the Texas sun. We tried two local Texas ice cream shops... num! Buxton got to slide down a huge inflatable slide and ride this rocket ship. We had the privilege of taking Hutch to this event. He got so desperate to cool off he rolled in a mud pile... thanks buddy! Brayleigh was in a hiking backpack on Matthew, so they were both extra hot and uncomfortable. Needless to say, we were just focusing on breathing, not taking pictures. What an adventure.

Date Night With The Traweek Kids

I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family living next door to us. Meet the Traweek Family. You've seen these kids before, posted all over the blog. Our kids are close friends, it's safe to say they play together every single day! Caleb (10), Colby (8), and Bailey (7). Buxton and Brayleigh are much younger then their friends, but it doesn't seem to slow them down. I am blessed to have such a great friend in Ms Jessica. Mr Bobby, the daddy, is set to deploy in one week, we will miss his presence here in the cul-de-sac. What does an upcoming deployment mean? Date night! They set out for a date night, leaving their precious ones with us! Our evening was filled with making pizza, playing board games, play dough, painting, playing red light green light, running obstacle courses in the back yard, and of course, s'more making! We had a blast with the kids.

The obstacle courses were a HOOT! They consisted of everything from jamming on air guitar to giving Mr Matthew 5 push ups! Buxton would get a little confused, but he had fun. Caleb took the best overall time!

The Snow Cone Machine

Soon after we returned from dropping my parents off at the airport, we received a care package from my Aunt Sue! The kids and I love to get mail from home. We spent the evening splurging on snow cones! She had sent us a snow cone machine, lots of flavors, and those special cups and straw-n-spoons. The whole neighborhood has come over to enjoy the fluffy white snow. Buxton asks for one when he first wakes up and a hundred more times throughout the day! Thank you so much Aunt Sue for thinking of us. We love you!
